Prepare students to practice hypnotherapy, not just pass an exam

Hypnotherapy uses skills that require practice.  It doesn't matter how much your students know if they cannot execute the skills with competence and confidence. So there is more to teaching than simply conveying knowledge. It takes special teaching skills to guide students as they practice.

Take the next step toward expanding your expertise at this interactive workshop October 4 - 7 in Fort Worth, Texas with Dr. Kweethai Neill, PhD & Dr. Steve Stork, EdD.

Time:  9 am - 5 pm most days.

Professional training to enhance the training You do

Knowing how to practice good hypnotherapy is one thing, being able to teach it is totally different. Getting a piece of paper only tells others you have completed a course and earned another certificate. This training, in addition to adding a piece of paper to your collection, will give you the ability to teach with confidence. The intention is to add to your competence in conveying to students your knowledge, wisdom and skills. You want your students to comprehend and be able to practice the skills you teach them. We will show you how it’s done.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

All students in this training are required to be a certified hypnotherapist or a professional in your field. The certificate non-hypnotherapists receive will acknowledge them as a Certified Instructor in their field. It is presumed that all students will already have mastery of the content knowledge and skill competency within their own practice field. Hypnotherapists are eligible to apply for Instructor certification through ICBCH.

How this course is unique

This course is different from TRAIN THE TRAINER programs, in that it does not rehash the content you want to teach. Rather, its focus is HOW to teach. You enter the course as an expert in your content field. Then you learn to convey that expertise to others. In that context, you come to understand that you are not replicating yourself. Rather, you are creating new professionals who, over time, might replicate you. It all begins with the skills and competence you develop in them.

This course is interactive and challenging. You will participate fully in multiple hands-on activities, apply the teaching skills you are learning. In many cases you will be learning and teaching at the same time.

Hypnotherapists who are also professional educators is a rarity, so this is a most unique learning experience! Challenge yourself to learn from the best teachers.

We adapt to you

We don't just speak 'Teacher'. We left that language behind when we left the university (though we are still fluent in it when necessary). Rather, we are combining our knowledge of pedagogy and hypnotherapy to give you only the most relevant and necessary skills; to support your success as an Instructor. For example, the 'Training Intentions' above sound a bit teacherish. So here it is in more straightforward terms.

CMTH 101 – Day 1 – The role of the Instructor

  • What does it mean to ‘teach’?
    • Demonstrating and telling students how to do hypnosis is the easy part, correcting mistakes as they practice is where real teaching occurs.
  • Alternatives to lecture and PowerPoint
    • It’s better to be the guide on the side than the sage on the stage. Do hypnosis, not just talk about it.
  • How to establish a working relationship with students
    • Students’ trust in you as instructor is just as critical as clients’ trust in you as hypnotherapist.

CMTH 201 – Day 2 -- Instruction

  • Learning via progression of knowledge & skills
    • Practicing individual components of hypnosis in success creates multiple opportunities for success as well as a better understanding of how hypnosis influences client behaviors.
  • Involving students in their own learning
    • Students cannot learn hypnosis by just listening and taking notes. The hypnosis voice & patter, in particular, require repetitive practice to feel natural and to flow.
  • Storytelling & Role-play as a link to authentic practice
    • Case stories create context and motivation. Role-playing improves adaptability by replicating how the application of hypnosis is non-linear and unpredictable.

CMTH 301 – Day 3 – Skill-based learning

  • Help students reflect on their skill practice
    • Hypnosis presents never-ending challenges that can only be overcome by reflecting on mistakes and conceiving ways to improve future outcomes.
  • How to structure videos and live presentations so students attend to what they need to learn.
    • Students must be more than amazed at the proficiency of master hypnotists, they must also analyze and evaluate what they view with the goal of rising to a similar level of skill.
  • Peer- and self-evaluation
    • Students are taught to observe hypnosis clients closely. Until they reach a level of mastery, they must also pay close attention to their own behaviors and skills.

CMTH 401 – Day 4 – Course preparation and delivery

  • Create a training course checklist
    • For most hypnosis trainings the Instructor is also Promoter, Registrar and dish washer. So add Planner to the list.
  • How to find and register suitable students
    • Don’t accept everyone the cat drags in; you’ll get hairballs.
  • Time management to enhance intensive learning
    • You want clients to relax into hypnosis. But you want students to remain alert and energized.
  • How to encourage and support students’ success
    • Only students with sufficient intellect and persistence will migrate into earning an income with hypnosis. How you instruct them strongly influences how much effort they exert.

This course has been designed by master teachers with earned doctorates in adult education and pedagogy (the practice of education). Dr. Kweethai Neill, PhD (Curriculum and Design in Health Education) and Dr. Steve Stork, EdD (Pedagogy) together have cumulative teaching experience of more than 80 years. Both are also Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists.

MASTER INSTRUCTOR: Kweethai Neill, PhD, CHT  (Dr. Kweethai)

Dr. Kweethai is a master of oral communication. A quick intellect that alternates seamlessly between the forest and the trees, she conceives creative insights leading to innovative solutions. As a highly successful hypnotherapist, she daily negotiates conflict within her clients; in the process teaching them communication skills that lead to fundamental changes in their life.

Dr. Kweethai left a university post as Chair of Health Studies on a search that led to founding iHealth Center for Integrated Wellness, Inc. She uses hypnotherapy to help clients implement change toward a better state of well-being and success. Her iChange Therapy™ integrates strategies from both east and west to elicit health and happiness from within the client.

Dr. Kweethai is a master hypnotherapy instructor, having taught hundreds of hours of basic and advanced training. She speaks annually at national and international hypnotherapy conferences, in addition to addressing medical, business and community audiences. She is a regular contributor to the IMDHA journal Unlimited Human and has published two books, Hypnotherapy, An Alternative Path to Health and Happiness and How to Build a $ix-Figure Hypnotherapy Practice.

MASTER INSTRUCTOR: Steve Stork, EdD, CHT

Dr. Stork has worked with learners at all levels, from early childhood thru college and adults. He is a keen observer of human behavior, drawing on an extensive background of teacher and learner behaviors to enhance classroom interactions. He has chosen not to practice hypnotherapy, but instead, is curator of Dr. Kweethai's work as it has evolved.

As a pedagogist, Dr. Stork's primary academic training is in the methods and strategies of teaching and assessment. It is what he taught as a University professor. He also supervised field experiences and student teaching.

Dr. Stork has also presented frequently at national conferences. Most recently he has begun to share aspects of iChange Therapy using videotaped clips of Dr. Kweethai in action, with an analysis of how her process works.
